Tipping the Fates

One magic circle with three potential victims for the spirit to control. Two of them had ways to block or kill it. And that left Artoria the weak link. The elvish rune humming and singing something in her ear she couldn't quite make out, the blonde bladesmith recalled Meara had finished the magical circle from inside, hadn't warned them about any sort of rules about leaving it. Hopefully that wasn't because she hadn't had time to.

"Kill it dead, Ardan!" she called, stepping out of the circle to make room for the magical clash going on inside.

Ardan nodded, and his hands tightened around the grip of his sword.   It belonged to him, though he'd yet to master it.  That didn't matter right now though.  He was the only one who could save his friends, and everything else fell away.   Help me save my friends, and lay this evil to rest.  That was the thought that went through his mind as he brought the blade high over his head, the best way to exercise the strength he had.   It was all or nothing, failing would leave him open to a savage counterattack or worse.   It didn't matter, this had to end now, and he wasn't going to let it have his friends.

The sword was warm in his hands, almost as if it was excited, and he could almost feel a sort of current flow back and forth between it and himself.   The blade began to descend,  increasing speed quickly, leaving what looked like red lightning and sparks behind it as it cleaved the fear-stricken demon from crown to crotch, ending its life in a perfect final stroke.   Ardan moved with the strike and brought the sword up to a mid-guard, ready to defend his friends if this didn't end things.   The young woodsman wasn't a perfect swordsman, but even a master would have applauded the sincerity and intent of his last strike.

As the demons body flops to the ground twitching and the spinning circle of bones spin faster, suddenly Meara jumps to her feet with her staff in hand and touches the demons body while mumbling strange words in some ancient forgotten tongue.

white electricity shoots down the staff from her hand to the end where it touches the demons body which bursts into a searing white blaze for a few seconds before becoming ash and is blown away by the wind created by the spinning bones. As the last ash is scattered the bones stop spinning and clatter to the floor.

Meara, her visage weary and haggard, smiles at her friends, "It is done."
