The coyote and the badger had been hunting partners for two seasons when the mage happened upon them. She was an environmentalist and was seeking to give nature a way to fight back. She cast her spell on the coyote and the badger. It wasn’t until later that the coyote and badger would realize anything had been done to them.

 

It wasn’t until they encountered the campsite with a latched container where the food was stored that they would realize how different they had become. Unable to work the latch in their animal forms, it was the coyote who first discovered it. As she struggled with the latch, she finally reached up with her hands to undo the latch and promptly fell over backwards in surprise. The badger in an attempt to comfort her friend, reached out with hands of her own to steady her coyote friend.
 

As they sat there, they looked at each other and realized they could speak. Short discussion later and having obtained the goods, a coyote and a badger made their exit from the campsite.


It has been a year since this first time and they have learned to interact some with human society. They consider themselves sisters despite their form differences and difference of species. They have also named themselves. The coyote took the name of Miyah and the badger took the name of Ember. They both chose the same last name of Smith.


More recently, Miyah and Ember have found themselves in the New Orleans area. Drawn here for some reason.

Shifter's Metabolism: Changing forms and supporting the regeneration of a shifter's body requires massive caloric intake. You can always eat and eat well, but any day you shift or employ your regeneration, you need to eat an eye-popping amount of food. This can end up clearing out prey in a wilderness area or draining your wallet if you're an urban shifter. Your conspicuous consumption is something that can also be tracked - either through prey depletion, a regularly overly large grocery bill, or the noteworthiness of clearing out the local buffet on a semi-regular basis. Until they ban you to save their profit margin. If you don't get your necessary calories, you become lethargic and cranky, even hangry; push it off long enough of and you risk not being able to shift or regen when you need to until you get some more grub. 

 

One Body, Many Forms: While you can change shapes, injuries don't modify themselves to the new size. Meaning if you come out of a large form back to a human form or need to drop from human to four legs to run, your wounds travel with at the same size they were on the other body. While you might be able to get a reprieve of wounds by shifting up, that also strains your metabolism (see above) which can affect your ability to actually finish shifting up or regenerate while in the larger form. If you have to shift down, you're risking being overwhelmed by your wounds. It's certainly not fun and may hamper your ability to run or to convince the nice police officer that you were at a swinger's party and not a big bear eating the evidence of a supernatural attack.

Berserker: You fly into an uncontrollable battle rage. It makes you a killing machine, but one that's as likely to hit friend as well as foe. Coming out of a Berseker rage is also exhausting. You'll need some recharge time after you calm down.

Art has been a fixture in the New Orleans LGBT Community for a couple of years now. She started as a bouncer at a bar, but her butch appearance soon got her offers to do security for all the gay festivals. She doesn't have family in town; she's mentioned a mother somewhere in north Louisiana. She doesn't talk about where she comes from, or why she makes normal people so nervous. She definitely won't discuss why sometimes she feels like a normal person and sometimes she feels like a shifter who smells of dry grasslands. She joined the Sable Krewe via introduction through one of the magic users but even they don't know much about her.

- Darrik summoned succubi to work in certain sections of the Night Flower district, if you’re daring enough to look for them.

 

Background: Darrik is one of the most controversial members of the New Orleans supernatural community. He entered town several years ago, to, in his own words, “luxuriate in the one place where the Cabal hasn’t castrated the human spirit.” Certainly, he has succeeded in carving his slice out of the Under. Much of it is linked to Puck, both of whom are surprisingly close despite Darrik’s known status as a Demon-Blooded being. Darrik has sometimes performed in the Night Flower venues and collaborates with Puck on their supernatural smuggling ventures.

 

In fact, certain scholars in the community suspect he is the direct offspring of a demonic or fallen angelic-aspected Being of Power. Darrik simply smiled with amusement the one time someone suggested to his face and made no comment on the matter, or about whom his parent might be.

Personality: Jack is laid-back and friendly, with Southern charm and a wide smile. Very few have seen him show a temper or even any negative attitude. Many suspect there’s more to the young man, but he maintains a friendly wall against people getting to know him more. Any relationships outside of his family-group tend to be short-term or casual. There has been speculation that he’s aromantic; he’s not ace due to confirmed sexual contacts, but he’s never expressed romantic desire for anyone, yet. He is expressive and clearly fond of the members of his family, so he is capable of love.

 

Appearance: Though imposingly tall, Jack’s quick smile and casual appearance offsets any sense of foreboding that his appearance might cause. Background

Jack moved to The Under when he was eight years old. Puck sponsored Jack and his father, Ted. It was known that they were refugees, and it was rumored they were running from Tesla. Everyone assumed it was due to Ted's need to feed off sexual energies, as one of the first things Puck arranged were partners to help meet Ted's needs. The young boy was tutored by Madaline. Not long after his tutorage began, Jack adopted a kitten named Steven. Though it looks like a normal cat, it's far smarter than it should be, and has aged far better than a cat should.

 

Not long after moving, Ted met Dahlia Lupei. A dhampir who’d fled her homeland of Romania ahead of the encroaching Elizabeth’s unification of Europe, she owns Under the Covers, a bookstore in the Under. They bonded over their love of imported fantasy stories and began to date. By the time Jack, as Jonathan was now called, was ten, they were married and began adopting more children. 

 

Jack has become very well known for his healing abilities. Though it can take prolonged contact for him to heal grievous wounds or chronic disease, he has helped many in the Under and Over. To that end, he became a massage therapist, which allows him to treat non-magical people covertly. Steven still lives with him, serving as his constant companion.
