Spoiler

Here goes Nothing.

Bonus Action: Rage 2 of 3 for the day. Important facts: Advantage on STR checks, 2x size, Resistance to Slashing/Piercing/bludgeoning.

Athletics Roll with Advantage

Exile_Jeane Request: [1d20+7] Roll: [9] Result: 16

Exile_Jeane Request: [1d20+7] Roll: [11] Result: 18

I'll assume an 18 gets Marida up there and within 10 feet of him.

Grapple Attempt

Exile_Jeane Request: [1d20+7] Roll: [7] Result: 14

Exile_Jeane Request: [1d20+7] Roll: [16] Result: 23

23 that he has to beat to avoid being Grappled if I read that rule right.

Assuming he fails that grapple resist, will spend my remaining movement hurling Marida and Mr. Vicious McNecropants off the pillar with him underneath roughly a tonish of falling Grugach Barbarian + Gear, lol.

Well, figured that a right bas'ard like this would have the tricks to see through other people's bas'ard moves. No harm though. She wasn't planning on being subtle about any of this next part.

Marida yelled directly into his face, a top of her lungs shout that dropped a few pitches as she let the strength of the giantkin flood through her veins and swell her body to twice it's normal stature and eight times it's mass. She used that resulting boon of power to all by throw herself up atop the pillar, outline flickering in blink-and-you-miss-it moments of visibility as she loomed over the ghoulish monster behind this hall of horrors. He didn't look the type to kindly ask the priest of the local war god if he could turn all those people into undead combatants, so the Grugach Warrior didn't spare a though for the chance, glaring down in contempt before hurling forward to engulf him in a bear hug that'd probably do credit to most bear.

Beyond that? Well, there was a thirty-foot drop and a group of people that'd be happy to finish off what her bulk left intact under her. Marida chuckled as she moved to make exactly that happen.

The two figures entwined hurtled off the top of the pillar and plunged toward the ground in front of everyone's horrified eyes!

Within Marida's grasp the necromancer hissed and the barbarian caught a glimpse of a horribly scarred and emaciated face hidden in the depths of the cowl, then the necromancers body seemed to twist and fold in upon itself leaving Marida grasping Nothing as she fell toward the bone covered floor.

At the end of the chamber by the far archway the necromancer appeared unfolding from nothing the tip of his staff glowing brightly!

Spoiler

necromancer took his turn using dimension door from his staff to escape the grapple and the fall. Marida is falling it is her turn she can act to escape the falll if she has the means or any other action that is possibl she will hit the floor at the end of the turn.  If Marida does not act then it is Seelia's action

  • 2 weeks later...

Seelia, hovering as she is a little bit above the fray, has a perfect view of all the shenanigans. Her reflexes are quick, and her blade is sharp.

Very sharp indeed.

With a silvery laugh, she whirls about and slashes her sword in the air. Magic flashes along the edge and explodes out in a gleaming line of energy that rushes across the field and cuts a livid mark in the air. In the air directly below Marida's plummeting body, in fact.

That wave of magical force then rebounded, altering its course to surge towards the necromancer. Even as he scowled though, anticipating a damaging blow, the incoming attack MISSED. It went over his head in fact! Directly over his head. Leaving...another strange rippling 'cut' in the air.

He realized what was happening too late to stop it.

Marida fell through the 'hole' under her, and came out the 'hole' over the necromancer. Her fall cushioned by his bony frame, and his escape ruined, all in one blow!

The pixie's laughter echoed off the chamber walls, like music, as she dove towards the dustup, even if she couldn't quite get within arm's reach just yet...

Spoiler

(Vortex Warp on Marida; teleporting her over the necromancer. This won't nullify the falling damage, but maybe he'll have to make a save or suffer some damage as well? Hee hee! GM call on that; my main goal was to keep Marida in the fray! Then Seelia flies 40' towards the new melee location! Bladesong still active.)

"Necromancer!" Kathra roared as she charged down the ramp towards the evil arcanist, her hammer raised high as she called upon her Vow. "By my Vow, may our arms be strengthened and our resolve unwavering as we bring you low!"

Spoiler

Action: Casts Bless, targeting herself, Merida, and Brarga. We get to add 1d4 to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws for the next minute.

Yimtac sighs and gives a toothy smile from his position across the hall from the pile of Merida and the Necromancer. He jogged forwards, towards that small pile and moved his hands in a mystic pattern while chanting. A trail of blueish sparkly light leapt from his fingertips and encompassed a cube around the pile. The light seemed to stick to the necromancer and Merida both, for at least a second.

Spoiler

DC 16 dex save for both. if failed, anyone has advantage to hit the target, and they cannot benefit from being invisible.

Alot of things happened at once, and while Brarga was generally pleased with the overall result, they needed to captialize on this now.   He could already see Ren moving to support him, or anyone else, which was good.   Helpful as Marida had been forcing the necromancer to waste valueable power, the way she was atop him left Brarga no save means to attack him without a chance of harming her.   His yellow eyes narrowed and even as he took massive strides toward the two, his twin axes raised and ready, he called to his Second.  "Help Marida Free!" his rumbling voice echoed in the chamber, and Ren lept into action.   She easily pulled Marida from her prone position atop the necromancer, just as Brarga moved in, a veritable storm of scale and metal, tuned to deliver a rain of magically augmented strikes to their foe.

Brarga rained blows on the prone necromancer who freed from the bulk of Marida twisted and blocked as best he could still the pummeling took a toll. The dark wizard surried back ward and as soon as he was clear of the Dragonborns  web of steel he flipped up to his feet in an unnatural display of agility.

Bones that had cracked and broke suddenly reset with a horried sound and a jerking series of movements. The Necromancer hissed and mouth words that caused the ears of those with a soul to bleed. He brought the staff down and smashed it into the floor and a pulse of darkness spread out from the point of impact!

As the dark energy rolled over them sickness and pain engulfed the heroes!

Spoiler

Necromacer takes 47 points of damage and rolle up to his feet. he regenerates 5 points and cast Circle of death . if your character is within 60' they need to make a constitution save DC15 failure = 26 necrotic damage, save  is half damage.

Spoiler

Dex Save for Faerie Fire...

[1d20+2] Roll: [11] Result: 13

Okay, is lit up, lol.

7 Damage from the fall thanks to Rage.

Con Save for Circle of Death...

[1d20+7] Roll: [11] Result: 18

Huzzah for 1/2 Damage. 52/72 HP left.

Swinging twice with Advantage and +1d4 to hit with hammer thanks to Party Buff Shenanigans.

Swing One

[1d20+1d4+7] Roll: [13][2] Result: 22 or [1d20+1d4+7] Roll: [7][4] Result: 18. Assuming a 22 is good to hit...

[2d6+6] Roll: [5, 4] Result: 15. Fifteen Bludgeoning.

Swing Two

 [1d20+1d4+7] Roll: [10][3] Result: 20 or [1d20+1d4+7] Roll: [6][3] Result: 16. Assuming a 20 is good to hit...

[2d6+6] Roll: [5, 1] Result: 12. Twelve Bludgeoning.

And That's That For Marida.

Lit up by sparkling magic and rolled off of her victim with a little help from their party Bard, Marida was in the process of unlimbering a warhammer longer than the necromancer was tall when he fired off his spell. It drew a grunt of pain and tightening of her half-seen expression as it passed through her. Noting her sudden re-visibility with a grim trace of amusement, she whistled appreciation at the half-dragon's impressive flurry of blows. That appreciation faded into the woodwork of Marida's anger like the bait in a Grugach ambush in the heartbeats before the resulting storm of arrows.

"You're a twisted, wee scunner, ain't ye?"

The sentence was the only warning that the sparkling necromancer had as the looming wraith-like warrior in front of him swung out on him, once, twice, with all the gentleness of an avalanche, the resulting blows guided home by the other's supportive spellcraft.

The warhammer smashed down and the necromancer raised his staff to block but Marida's strength just smashed it down into the Necromancer's shoulder. Bones craked and the evil wizards went to one knee his cowl fell back and Marida smashed again this time with full fury into the Necromancers pale emaciated face!

The sound was sickening, wet and craking atthe same time. The neromancers face caved in and the skul burst blood and purple brains splattered every where and the wizard's body jerked and twitched then toppled onto its side.

Dead.

Brarga's scales sizzled and cracked with the Necromancer's spell.   Thankfully, he was tough, and endured the dark energies unleashed.  His axes raised to once again go after the necromancer, he gave Marida a toothy grin.   "Well done Marida."  She'd taken severe risk, and she'd begun the fight, and finished it.   As far as he was concerned it was a good audition to join the party, should that be her mind.   "Very well done."   He nodded to Ren, and waited for the others to come to them.   He'd let those with more knowledge inspect the remains of the necromancer, and gather proof of his demise.  "So, how do we prove the dragons are no longer a threat?"

"Leave the wildlings to me", The voice reverberated through he chamber all spun to face the way they had come and there was the dragon that had led them her but, no longer chained, nor scarred. "I will see that they depart for safer breeding grounds."

He looks at each of the party his eyes unclouded piercing them as if looking at their souls. "You have done me a great service, and I owe you much that I know not how to repay. I am in your debt. Keep all that you find here as spoils of war but do not terry for I intend to seal these wretched tunnels for forever. If you have need of me you may call for payment of the debt I owe. Send my name into the wind and I will come."

Brarga looked up at the Dragon, and nodded.   He would trust it to do as it said, as things stood, they certainly weren't a match for a grown dragon.   To the victor went the spoils, which was quite common, and to earn the favor of a dragon, well that would  certainly be of help later, he was sure.  This dragon had honored his word, and so too would Brarga.

"i'm glad we could all be so reasonable." he said quietly.   With the threat ended, he wanted to head back, but first, they needed to take a quick look around.   "No one goes alone, just in case there's a trap or another  hostile entity., let's make a quick search of the area, and then we'll leave."

Marida produces a large sack and proceeds to stuff the corpse into it with minimal touching. Everyone watches the somewhat ghoulish activity. When she finished she hoist the bag, which really isn't that heavy especially for her, over her shoulder.

Our Heroes search the tunnels of which there are many. Several times they have to tell the bard to stop strumming his lute. Each time he complains that he is trying to compose a epic while the actions are still fresh.

They tromp through a dozen tunnels but only find the chambers where the dragon was chained, those chains now piles of debris where the dragon had been held, and the breeding chamber. Everything else was simple tunnels with scattered skeleton remains on the floor.

"Add stingy tae evil for this eejit then," Marida commented with a shrug as they entered the chamber they started this assault in, shrugging her grisly burden off her shoulder to hit the floor with a thud of broken meat and the rattle of assorted, no doubt evil, relics. This place needed an entire legion of priests to put the many collected humanoid remains to some some sort of relief. She was by no means the authority, but leaving an army worth of dismembered skeletons seemed like a surefire curse for the next batch to crack open this lair.

Still, the dwarven paladin seemed to have a chip on her shoulder about the undead and hadn't said a thing about that up until now, so it'd have to do, wouldn't it?

"Aye, so bafore the dragons slams the door behind us, any last searches here, 'aw? Just as glad tae ask ye to wiggle your fingers over tha' loot outside, ye ken. Half tha shite probably has a geas on et, like as not," she continued with a grim chuckle, amused that the shares of loot had gone from chunks off of a dragon to the trinkets carried by one wizard without the sense the gods gave a deer to keep running from trouble.

Brarga shook his head.   "We'd best quit this place before he decides to seal it away."   He shrugged, and then took the lead as they headed for the exit.   "Well, anyone else have anything, or shall we go?"

The dragonborn warrior had had his fill of this place.  "I for one would like a good meal and a hot bath.  While that won't happen tonight,  such things wait for us all, I'm sure.  Our injuries will heal, and we did some good.   There are many times where we can ask for no more than that."

"Have anything? HAVE ANYTHING?! That's BRILLIANT!" shouts Seelia, and she corkscrews down from on high onto the heap that the necromancer had fallen to. For all his mortal power, now laid low. Her eyes gleamed with strange radiance as she peered through the veil to discern the magical nature of things...and immediately she winced at a sudden overwhelming vision only she could see.

"Everything?" the sprite blurted, aghast. "Surely not...there's...oh yes, lint. The lint is normal. Anyone want some normal lint? Is...is that a toenail? Strange!"

She buzzed up and out of the pile of belongings and body and brushed herself off. "Almost all his stuff is magical! Protections layered thick and mighty! Mister Pants! MEFY!! C'mere!"

Her lumbering animated doll and raven came over to help strip the fallen wizard of his belongings and dignity alike. Thankfully his robe was left on him, sparing everyone scrawny, decrepit naked necromancer.

Seelia then hunkered over the objects...a cloak that spread out dark and foreboding, a pair of rings that glinted in the distant light, a staff of twisted branches twined together and charred as if by a fire. A pair of scroll cases heaped carelessly over to one side with a dagger rounded it all out. What followed was a muttered, gesticulated conference between the three of them as they examined each item in turn and argued about what it was and what it would do. Mefy who could speak in that croaking voice, and Mister Pants who was silent but waved his arms around and stomped...and Seelia who employed both tactics frequently and often. At one point Mefy and Pants had the cloak in a kind of tug of war as Seelia laughed and egged them on. Then the raven grabbed a ring in its beak and seemed to be threatening to drop it off into the chasm while both Seelia and the doll lunged for it. It was like watching three young siblings squabble over feastday treats.

Finally they seemed to reach a consensus though, and the pixie said. "Most of this stuff just...strengthens you against harm. Even the staff, which is really weird! One of the rings..." she indicates a ring made of a curl of wood, carved in the image of a tiny tree whose branches merged with its roots, "...actually heals you? It's really strong magic too! And the staff, in ADDITION to protecting you, also lets you do that..." Here Seelia gestured by shoving a hand away from herself quickly. "...that thing he did where he teleported away."

"The knife and papers there..." she shook her head and glowered at her familiar and creation. "...we're gonna need more time to work that stuff out. RIGHT MEFY?!"

Quote the raven: "Ever more."

Seelia hucked a pebble at the bird, who ruffled his feathers and clacked his beak.

"Anyway, it's pretty good stuff! We should duel for it all!"

Brarga let out a sigh, and looked to Seelia.   They'd left the cave and made it outside, a safe distance away. "Go ahead and do what you need to do if you can do it here Seelia.  Better that we know what we have, before we enter a town, just in case there's a problem."

Once she'd taken the time to understand what the scrolls and dagger actually were, Brarga could see that Kathra definitely wanted to destroy the dagger.

He looked down at one of the rings, and nodded.  A quick glance at the others, to see what they wanted, what would fit them, and help them, he smiled.  "How does this sound, then?   We'll destroy the dagger.  None of us want it, and from what Seelia said, it's dangerous to sell it or do nothing.   We'd all feel guilt if whoever it was sold to came to a bad end with something we found.   The healing ring will go to Marida.  She can make good use of it.  Yimtac gets the staff.   Seelia, you take the cloak and the scrolls.   I will take the other ring.  Kathra, Renn, you get first pick next time."

He looked around to see what the others thought of this, and when no one dissented, he nodded, and passed out the spoils of battle to their new owners.  When he handed the ring to Marida, he smiled.  "The first of many.   Thank you for your aid."   There was a different tone to his deep voice, the tone of Respect.

He took the ring that was his share, and smiled.   "Now all that's left is the return to town to report the end of this, and our success."
