Valentine grew up as the youngest sibling of three (eldest is brother Angor, middle sister Sakura), daughter of Roberta and Martin Adama. Her parents are independently wealthy from Roberta's inheritance, but have focused their lives on radical activism and mostly spent that wealth on international travel and boots-on-the-ground activism (and on supervision for the kids when they went places too dangerous to take them). Valentine grew up seeing the best and a worst in humanity and with a deep love of helping those in need. When it came time for her to decide what to do with her own life, she pursued a medical degree and joined Doctors Without Borders. Her brother Angor is currently deeply involved in the Black Lives Matter and other political movements in the US, while Sakura married and is raising several children alongside a career with the Dollywood Foundation in the UK.

Background
Ali Badren lived within a constricting home in New York City. His father Amin, a Lebanese doctor who had immigrated to the United States and married Mara, Ali's Catholic mother, and they'd had him and his younger sister Leyla. Despite the apparent blush of diversity in such a household, the weight of parental expectation smothered the children anyway.

Services every Sunday, whether it be at church or the mosque, Leyla couldn't be something ultimately as unproductive as a Hollywood actress, and it was only natural for Ali to prepare for Johns Hopkins, Harvard or any other university with a first rate medical school. Programmed for obedience in his upbringing, though slowly and surely stewing at the enforced pressure on him, Ali dutifully plodded along.

Granted, a kind person like Ali might have chosen to be a doctor anyway, but to have the decision foisted on him was an entirely different kettle of fish! Ultimately, he went through the University of Pennsylvania, diligent in his studies and bleeding out his frustration at the gym and through the punching bag. In the middle of medical school, he learned about the death of his childhood friend James Lee, and took a plane trip to Colorado where the funeral was taking place...

In Search of Better Days

 

Appearance: A striking young woman, Kamala has the lean look of someone not used to having much, if anything, extra. She dresses conservatively to avoid problems and get on with her business. A deep tiredness bleeds into her hazel eyes when she thinks no one's looking, quick to cover it up when there is work to be done.

 

Personality: Serene and confident within her areas of expertise, Kamala picks her battles, speaking up in stubborn defense of what she considers important, building relationships one brick at a time into lasting stable bonds. She very much carries her dead with her, considering the burden a sacred responsibility and a goad to do what she can. :

 

History: Born in northern Syria as part of the Kurdish minority in 1997, Kamala grew up without the security of a government that saw her as someone worth protecting. All of that security came from within her family and community instead, especially as the civil war kicked off, bringing the precarious middle-class bubble she'd grown up in crashing down, and Syria became a battleground split between warring factions backed by multiple outsiders. But even war couldn't stop the wheel of time from turning and between the needs of survival, Kamala grew up, fell in love, married a YPG fighter named Ciwan, and even found a calling: midwifery, training under a local nurse as infrastructure collapsed in the region and the need for such services remained.

 

The wheel keeps turning, after all.

 

Her mother died. Two of her brothers died. Ciwan died, and she miscarried when injured by a Russian bomb strike, losing the last living gift he had given her. Nothing was sacred, the community she'd grown up within fracturing under the pressure of war and chaos, Her father, ever the staunch believer in the cause, asked her to leave Syria, and for all her stubbornness, she didn't have the internal strength to say no this time. Kamala went north into the refugee camps across the Turkish border, and for all her scars, she found the embers of her passions rekindled by the obvious need of her fellow refugees, the gratitude in their eyes as she plied her much-needed trade with inadequate supplies under the omnipresent shadow of the Turkish authorities. What was broken could be mended..

Name-Tenchi Shirahara

Background
 

 

Tenchi Shirahara is the eldest child of Seizo Shirahara, CEO of BlackWind Technolgies, a leader in military electronics and weapons development.   He has a twin sister, Raiko, and the two of them couldn't look any more different.   When the twins were young, their parents decided to provide them with an excellent education, sending them to one of the most prestigious boarding schools of all, if not the most.  The  Institut auf dem Rosenberg in Switzerland.
 

While there, Tenchi learned all the proper behaviors of high society, how to appreciate art, and read people, in addition to his normal studies.   It was there that he met Katsuhito Masaki, a skilled instructor in the martial arts, brought on to teach the affluent youths there some modicum of self defense, and found that he had a natural talent for both unarmed combat, and Kendo.   It was immensely fun for him, as he felt a strange allure for the way of the sword, and Katsuhito loved having so apt a pupil.   During their time at school, Raiko was nearly kidnapped, but fortune smiled and the situation was resolved before the kidnappers could grab him as well and ransom them to their father.  Tenchi is the only living person who knows what happen, and he's every bit as tightlipped about it as Raiko.  
 

Though they didn't see their parents as much as others, their mother regularly called them, and the family often took vacations on their holiday breaks,  visiting much of Europe, Asia, and Stateside.  Following the completion of their schooling, Tenchi Surprised everyone by stating his intention to join the Army.  He saw it as his duty, and Seizo did everything but cut him off to dissuade him from that path.  
 

Still, Tenchi followed what he thought was right, and Served two tours in the army.   While there, he took online courses, working towards his degree in Business Management, so that when he returned he'd not be completely behind.   While overseas, he and his unit were involved in several heavy firefights, and cut off from the rest of the allied forces.   With most of his squad gone, Tenchi lead the two survivors in a desperate flanking attack to distract insurgent forces closing in on the command element.   The surprise attack worked  and opened a path of retreat for the command element.  All three memeber survived, though his two comrades, Tucker Aldrige and Mark Cain both were injured enough to be offered medical discharges which they took.   Tenchi was injured, and carries the scars of a stab wound and an in and out gunshot wound on his left shoulder.  
 

Darren Carlson, the commander of Tenchi's unit nominated him for the Distinguished Service Cross,  which was awarded to him, along with several other honors. Not just for executing the plan that saved so many lives, but also because he saved the lives of his squadmates as well.   Colonel Carlson had seen great potential in Tenchi, and took special interest in him, for the remainder of his service in the Military.  Even after serving his two tours, the two of them are good friends.
 

Shortly after coming home, Seizo Shirahara passed away suddenly of an unexpected heart attack.  With neither child willing or ready to take up the reins of the company, Dwight Ackerson took the reins in their stead.   Tenchi put his degree in Buisness management to good use, joining the company and  working to help their marketing, increasing profits with each passing quarter.   Much of the work done was still too technical for him, but he was inquisitive and interested, rekindling his lifelong friendship with Anderson Reynes, the VP in charge of Applied Sciences.   Anderson took the time to explain things to Tenchi, which in turn gave him a leg up when presenting new innovations to their prospective clients.


Relationships- Raiko Shirahara- his twin sister,  they are more than capable of finishing each other's sentences, and synch up often enough to unnerve some, even after spending nearly a decade apart due to Tenchi's military tours.  Tenchi is quite protective of his sister, though not in a stifling way, most of the time.   Even when he was overseas, the twins spoke often via computer.
 

Myra Shirahara- the twins Mother, she and Raiko look similar, which means she and Tenchi look almost nothing alike.  A very loving mother, she was supportive of his decision to join the military, and walk his own path, though she did worry about him constantly.   
 

Jakob Ritter-  Jakob was Tenchi's best friend at the institute, and a genius with computers and engineering.  He is currently the Head systems analyst for Heinkel Robotics In Berlin, a corporation that has a partnership with Blackwind Technologies.  The two are still good friends.  Jakob had a serious crush on Raiko growing up.
 

Ilaria Rossini- Ilaria was Tenchi's first crush/girlfriend.  Bright and cheerful, the heiress to the Rossini family of New York City, she is a free spirit, and probably the person who knows Tenchi best outside Raiko.  She is a Doctor at NewYork-Presbyterian, with a promising future ahead.

Katsuhito Masaki- Tenchi's instructor in the martial arts and Kendo.   Easily his most favorite teacher, he has made the efforts to see him at least once a year since coming home from the Army.



Personality-  Tenchi is usually very amiable, getting along with almost everyone.   He can be extremely serious at times, and very seldom loses his cool.

Backstory

 

Born to Japanese Seizo and American Myra Shirahara of the Illustrious BlackWind Technologies, the American branch of the Kaze Industries Group; a Japanese Multinational defense contractor and heavy Manufacturer. Raiko and her Fraternal Twin, Tenchi were born into the lap of Luxury that few can compare to.

 

With their father being a Branch manager of one of the most lucrative Japanese firms, there was a lot of scrutiny and expectations on the two while growing up. It is a testament to the fact that their father actually married for love that he managed to ameliorate some of these expectations while still raising them to excel, preventing them from being crushed under the expectations of two worlds.

 

The days  before they started school properly were a whirlwind of Tutors and learning experiences, their parents taking an active part in their younger years of schooling.

 

All things change, however, and eventually the Twins official schooling was to begin. Expectations dictated they had the best education that money could buy. To facilitate this, at the age of six they were enrolled in the Institut auf dem Rosenberg in Switzerland, the Premier Boarding school in the world.

 

The experience has certainly made the two of them into the people they are today, the Twins quickly settled into their new lives, albeit with a certain amount of homesickness that is only to be expected. This being said, they spoke often enough with the parents they rarely got to see any more, with phone calls and letters being passed back and forth. What time they had at home was taken up with seeing the world, with many trips to Europe, Asia and the States filling the gaps in their educational calendar.

 

It was shortly after their first being enrolled at the academy that someone attempted to kidnap the twins. They failed to nab Tenchi, but were able to grab Raiko before booking it from the campus. Both the authorities and their parents were quickly notified, and what followed was quite possibly the biggest manhunt in Swiss history. It took them several days, but they eventually found her, the building she was being kept in had been turned into an abattoir, and not a single kidnapper had been left alive, Raiko nearly catatonic amidst the carnage. What exactly happened in there remains a mystery to the authorities, the leading theory being that there was a disagreement over the ransom that brought the kidnappers to blows, eventually the factions killing each other, but that doesn’t explain some of the weirder evidence they found. Regardless, whatever the truth of what happened there, Raiko doesn’t speak of it and will clam up if it is even obliquely referenced.

 

It was this event that spurred both of the twins into taking up self defense, and the point where they learned their appreciation for the blade and other Martial arts, Tenchi in particular became enamoured with Kendo, while Raiko herself found more fulfilment with the Sabre. Nevertheless, the two became known as fiends with the blade during their school years, Tenchi being generally more technically adept, but Raiko was able to do things with a sabre that bordered on impossible. Those attending from Japan being tempted to whisper “Kensei” of the two.

 

Time passed, and eventually came their graduation from the Institut, Raiko taking all of her lessons to heart, and leaving with a web of connections now spanning Royalty, other business leaders as well as politicians and athletes.

 

Afterwards, Tenchi wanted to do his bit to serve his country, and while she was displeased at it, backed him to the hilt at their fathers attempts to reconsider. He left, and she was, while not alone, the furthest from her twin that she’d ever been before.

 

IN the face of this, she threw herself into her role, attending college at MIT and studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and moonlighting with her father, studying business management under him, though in more practical terms than most colleges would offer. The workload was immense, and the stress high. Her father eventually taking her aside when he noticed the strain.

 

Her work was important to her, he recognised, but a blade untempered would be brittle and shatter, instructing her to take some time in her schedule to find a hobby that she could use to blow off steam, and to take the time to indulge them on occasion. She picked up the blade again, but also sewing, even while relaxing being unable to entirely let go of having something to work towards.

 

Eventually,she graduates and takes a position in the company, leading one of the R&D teams, to give her practical management experience for when she and her brother take over the company.

 

Her brother returning home was a much rejoiced event, though somewhat tainted by their father’s death so soon after it. Nevertheless, with her in a position within Research and Development, and him acting as the face, the two have been an unholy terror, able to coordinate almost telepathically to bring greater renown to the company. The two have, as of now, well and truly fallen back into their old groove, moving seamlessly with one another. To take one on, is to take both, and to take the eyes off one to focus on the other leads to the first coming in at an unexpected angle and blindsiding their opposition. Office politics will never be the same again.

Somebody’s Watching Me: A Scion’s Godly parent has eyes and ears everywhere, and even if they don’t Visit their child, they’re often ready to lend a hand to aid their child in need. During a scene where the Scion would be in danger, their parent sends in reinforcements, usually resulting in either two Mooks or one Professional (see p. 145 for more on Archetypes) to fight on their side. These allies leave at the end of the scene, however.

Beyond Memory:You bend the boundaries of cognition, fading from memory after an interaction. Anyone trying to describe you or recall the details of your interaction must make an Occult + Composure roll at Difficulty 2 to remember anything at all, with a 1-point Complication. If they fail to meet this Complication, your identity is safe, though the details of their interaction are not. If this is magically contested, make a Clash of Wills. You may spend Momentum and double successes on any Liminal Skill rolls to avoid passive detection, notice, or stealth otherwise; this does not work against active searching.

Death by Teacup: When you use an improvised weapon, it becomes as deadly as anything designed for the job. It takes on the profile of any existing weapon of a similar size or shape: A teacup becomes brass knuckles or a punch dagger; a shard of glass becomes a knife; a thrown shoe becomes a throwing hatchet, etc. It must appropriately fit something of a similar size and shape, as described in the examples listed. This benefit lasts until you no longer hold the object, or until it breaks, or until you are no longer using the object with any Warrior Skill, whichever comes first. In the case of thrown objects, the benefit extends until impact. A hurled shoe strikes with the force of a tomahawk and then becomes ordinary footwear when it hits the ground. This is compatible with Master of Weapons, though still adheres to the set limitations.

Master of Weapons: At the beginning of the session,choose one of your weapons to be your favored weapon. When you use your favored weapon, add a number of additional Tag points to it up to your Warrior Calling. These do not have to fit the weapon’s existing profile: A sword can be made to strike at Far range, for example. Spend Momentum to switch the benefit to another weapon. Negative cost Tags cannot be purchased with this Knack.

 

Leader:

 

Perfect Poise: You cannot be shaken by panic or fear unless it is from another supernatural source — in which case, you gain 2 Enhancement to resist it (such as making Clash of Wills rolls) that applies before you roll. You also gain 1 Enhancement to all Social rolls involving grace, poise, or composure, and to keep a “poker face.” This also applies before you roll.

Both of them looked for different ways to escape, Carl getting involved with a local gang and Juno opting instead for enlisting in the military. Tryfon Burton was born to Lydia and Giannis Burton in the mid 90's. His father was a mechanic and his mother was a school teacher. He showed an early aptitude with electronic and mechanical devices and skills. His room was covered in posters showing various high-end muscle and exotic cars. At age 16, when he was legally able to work, he went to work at his father's Auto shop. He began training with the techs, learning all he could. By are 19, when he left for vocational training, Tryfon had a life path in mind. He was going to customize cars for a living.  He began his studies toward becoming an ASE-Certified master automotive technician. Along the way he met and was taught by Jana Ryvek, a teacher and mentor at the vocational school he was attending.  They became fast friends, and he kept up the friendship after he was certified and graduated. While in school, for spending money and experience, Tryfon was working for a car dealership on weekends as a salesman, where he was gaining experience with reading customers wants as they walk in. His skill in cold reads led him to make a decent amount of commission so his debt wasn't too much when he graduated. He returned home and picked up as a tech at his father's shop. His father, recognizing Tryfon's talent, suggested he strike out on his own. After a year or so of pestering from his father, he eventually got a loan and opened his own shop, but due t his lack of business knowledge his shop eventually failed. His family helped him pay off the oan, but it left Tryfon depressed and feeling like a failure.
